How long can a boiler go without a service?
A boiler will often run for years without one, which is exactly why people stop booking. The cost of that shows up at the claim: miss a year and the manufacturer can decline a repair that would otherwise have been covered. If yours has gone two or three years, book it in autumn rather than during the first cold week, when half of Torfaen rings on the same morning.
Is it okay to service a boiler every 2 years?
Not while the boiler is under a manufacturer warranty, because almost all of them specify twelve months and a two-year gap is grounds to refuse a claim. How long does a boiler service take?
Allow forty-five minutes for a combi on one of the newer Cwmbran estates. An older Pontypool or Blaenavon house with a cylinder in the airing cupboard and a tank in the loft takes longer, because the valves, the cylinder and the tank want checking as well as the boiler. We would rather spend the extra twenty minutes than pretend half the system is not there.
How do I know if my boiler needs servicing?
Twelve months since the last one is the answer for most people. On the older conventional systems around Torfaen there are extra tells: a cylinder that takes far longer to heat than it used to, a motorised valve you can hear straining, and an overflow from the loft tank that has started in the last year.
