We are a heating firm, but we are plumbers first, and a lot of what we do is the ordinary stuff: a tap that will not stop dripping, a toilet that runs all night, a stopcock seized solid, pipework that needs moving for a kitchen fitter.

Small jobs
We do them. A lot of firms will not turn out for a dripping tap and we understand why, but it is often the thing that has been bothering someone the longest. If you have a list, save it up and we will work through it in one visit — that is cheaper for you than three separate call-outs.
Water regulations
We are WRAS approved, which matters more than it sounds: it means the fittings and the way we install them meet the water regulations, so you are not storing up a problem for whoever inspects it next.

What is a reasonable call out charge for a plumber?
Most UK plumbers charge £50 to £100 for the call-out, and it normally buys the first hour of work rather than just the journey. Emergency and out-of-hours rates run higher. The question worth asking is whether the fee comes off the job price, because that varies between firms far more than the number does.
How much does a UK plumber charge per hour?
UK plumbers generally charge £40 to £80 an hour, with cities and emergency work at the top of that. Plenty of jobs are priced as a fixed job instead, which is better for you on anything predictable. Ask for the total for the work rather than the rate.
How much will a plumber charge to replace taps?
Changing a pair of taps is usually an hour to an hour and a half of labour, so most firms price it as a small fixed job. It takes longer when the old taps have seized to the basin or the back nuts have corroded, which is common in an old house. If you have other small jobs waiting, put them on the same visit.
Do you need a plumber to install new taps?
No, changing a tap is legal for anyone to do and plenty of people manage it. What catches people out is an isolation valve that will not shut, a back nut you cannot get a hand to behind the basin, and flexible connectors bought in the wrong length. If your stopcock is seized, do not start.
What are the signs of a good plumber?
They give you the price and the reasoning before starting, they arrive when they said they would, and they tell you when a job is not worth doing. Check the registration for the work — Gas Safe for gas, WRAS for water fittings — and ask what the workmanship guarantee is in writing. Ours runs two years, and our Gas Safe number is 630601.
