Most people replace a boiler either because the old one has finally gone, or because the repair bills have started arriving too often to ignore. Either way, the questions are the same: what do I actually need, what will it cost, and how long will I be without heating.

Working out what you need

We come and look. The right boiler depends on how many bathrooms you have, your water pressure, whether you have a cylinder, and how the house is used. A bigger boiler is not a better boiler — an oversized one cycles on and off, wears faster and costs more to run. We will size it properly and tell you why.

The installation

A straight swap is usually a day. Moving the boiler, converting from a conventional system to a combi, or fitting a new cylinder takes longer and we will tell you before we start, not on the day.

Warranties

As a BAXI approved installer we can offer manufacturer warranties up to ten years. That is on top of our own two-year workmanship guarantee. The manufacturer’s warranty depends on the boiler being serviced annually, and we will remind you.

Finance

A new boiler is a real expense. Finance is available so it can be paid monthly instead of all at once, and we will go through what that means before you commit.

Qualified for it

Gas Safe registered 630601, with G3 for unvented cylinders where a job needs it. We notify building control on your behalf.

Frequently asked questions

  • How much should a new boiler cost in the UK?

A new combi fitted in the UK generally runs from about £1,800 to £3,500, and what moves it is the boiler chosen, whether the boiler stays where it is, and how much pipework has to change. Converting a conventional system costs more again. We quote after seeing the house rather than over the phone, and finance is available if you would rather pay monthly.

  • How long does a new boiler take to install?

A straight combi swap is usually one day. Moving the boiler to another wall, converting from a tanked system, or fitting a new cylinder takes two to three days, because the pipework and the making good are the slow parts rather than the boiler itself. You will know which job yours is before we start.

  • What size boiler do I need?

Boiler size is set by how much hot water you need at once, not by the floor area of the house. One bathroom and ordinary demand is usually served by a 24 to 30kW combi; two bathrooms in regular use often want a system boiler and a cylinder instead. An oversized boiler is not a safer bet — it cycles on and off, wears faster and costs more to run.

  • Do you need access to all radiators when fitting a new boiler?

Yes, for part of the job. The system has to be cleaned before the new boiler goes on, and balancing afterwards means adjusting a valve on every radiator in the house. Clear a route to each one and move anything breakable before we arrive.

  • What is a combi boiler?

A combi heats hot water on demand straight from the mains, so there is no cylinder and no tank in the loft. It suits a house with one bathroom and decent mains pressure, and it gives you the airing cupboard back. Where it struggles is two showers running at once, which is what a system boiler and a cylinder are for.
