Before we get there
Turn the water off at the stopcock — usually under the kitchen sink, sometimes in a downstairs cloakroom or the garage. If it is coming from the heating rather than the mains, turn the boiler off too. If water is anywhere near lights or sockets, turn that circuit off at the consumer unit and leave it off.
Finding it
Leaks rarely appear where they start. Water travels along joists and pipes and comes through the ceiling several feet from the actual fault. We trace it properly rather than opening up the first place it looks wet.
What we deal with
Burst pipes, leaking joints, failed radiator valves, overflowing cisterns, leaking cylinders, and the slow leaks that show up as a pressure gauge that keeps dropping.
Repair
We carry fittings for the common failures, so most leaks are stopped on the first visit. Where a section of pipework has to be replaced we will tell you what is involved before we start cutting.
Insurance
If you are claiming, we can provide a written account of the cause and the repair. Ask us on the day.

What is classed as a plumbing emergency?
Anything where water is escaping and causing damage, or where you have no water at all. Burst pipes, water coming through a ceiling, a cistern overflowing that you cannot stop, a leaking cylinder, and any leak near lights or sockets all count. So does no heating in deep winter with someone vulnerable in the house. A dripping tap does not, and can wait for a booked visit.
How long to wait for an emergency plumber?
It depends on how far away they are and how the day is going; two to four hours is common, and longer during a freeze when everybody rings at once. We offer same-day call-outs and aim to be with you inside two hours. Turn the water off at the stopcock while you wait, because that decides how much damage there is by the time anyone arrives.
How much should I pay for an emergency plumber?
Emergency rates in the UK often start around £80 to £150 for the first hour and climb at night and on bank holidays, because you are buying immediate attendance rather than a slot next week. Insist on knowing the rate before anyone sets off. A firm that will not say what an hour costs over the phone is not the one to call.

You are paying for someone to leave another job and come now, usually with a van already stocked with the fittings to finish yours. Out of hours it also means paying someone for their evening.
